Dear friends, In anticipation of the upcoming Jubilee Year of Mercy, I will be offering a specially designed Parish Mission, which I have titled “Rich in Mercy” (Eph. 2:4). This Parish Mission will seek to inspire and equip parishes to fulfill the Holy Father’s expressed wish, “that the whole Church will find in this Jubilee the joy needed to rediscover and make fruitful the mercy of God.”
Parish Missions have been a wonderful part of our Catholic tradition and heritage for centuries. Traditionally celebrated during the penitential seasons of Advent and Lent, the Parish Mission seeks to provide the faithful with an opportunity for spiritual renewal and rededication. During these Missions the Good News (kerygma) of Jesus Christ is proclaimed and the faithful are called to experience God’s mercy through repentance and reconciliation. They are invited to deepen their relationship with the Lord and to live out their baptismal vocation in the world with joy and holy boldness. I have had the great privilege of preaching many parish missions over my lengthy ministerial career and am thoroughly convinced of their great spiritual benefits.
